Low self reliance means that you distrust your own judgement and reactions, resulting in an impairment of your self -direction.
If your sense of self is blurry and unclear, your ability to rely on yourself and your own judgement and values to guide you in your decision making especially when it pertains to relationships in which others seeks to manipulate you - you will necessarily be more prone to rely on the judgments and direction of others.
Being a self directed person is the opposite of being mark for manipulators. If you lack the ability to consult yourself or rely on judgments or values that you hold, your dependence on others will increase, and your vulnerability to being controlled by what others want you to do for them - to serve their purpose and advance their gains - will be almost ensured.
People who have low self - esteem are less likely to be self - reliance than those with high self - esteem, and not surprisingly, those who rely on themselves more often in making determinations in their relationships with other people will raise their self-esteem by doing so. In short, if you do not think much of yourself very clearly however - you will not be inclined to exercise independence, autonomy, and self - self reliance in your actions with others.
Instead, your dependence on other's judgments, opinions, and decision making will be far greater than your reliance on your own, thereby ushering the way for manipulators of all types!.
People with low self-reliance will recognise the tendency in themselves to ask other people - almost every one they know for their input and advice regarding an impending decision or problem. Often asking too many people for advice merely confuses the issue further, and lacking confidence in their own ability to sort through and assimilate the various source of advice they have so ardently sought, those people now feel the need to ask others to help them process whatever else has said etc of which that isn't good!.
Improving your decision making ability and particularly your skills at resolving postdecisional regret etc. Good luck also always feel free and remember to refer to this tool at any time should the need arise!
